Our Irish Family Heritage
The Kelly & Monroe Families and Their Relations
A SOFT COVER CASE STUDY
Weaving historical facts with interesting and sometimes poignant anecdotes, Kathleen Monroe paints a colorful picture of her relatives at the time of the Irish migration to the United States and their lives in their new nation. Written through the eyes of two families, her tales place past generations of unknown ancestors into sharper focus for their descendants.
A seasoned author, having previously produced Legends of Barnet, Vermont: History, Mystery, Curiosities & Culture of a Small Vermont Town, Ms. Monroe approached Foster Design with a request to produce her next project: the story of her Irish ancestors and their immigration to the U.S. This multi-year effort, nicknamed “The Project,” involved extensive research, both in the United States and Ireland.
Genealogical histories pose a unique challenge, and Foster Design helped to organize the information into a logical progression. We also created five custom family tree charts for the major families noted in order to clarify the many intertwined relationships.
Family crests have many variations, but all are comprised of the family’s unique symbology. Foster Design created custom insignias with a consistent look for six of the names of the main families noted. We also optimized, retouched, and restored more than 250 archival images of her ancestors.
The book features letters from Ireland, four appendices, an index, and extensive footnotes to help put people in context with world events. The result is a story that not only gives the reader genealogical information but also provides historical insight into the lives of the people of Ireland in their homeland as well as in the United States during that challenging time in the history of our world.
“It was a terrific experience working with you. The design was lovely. Thanks so much for bringing ‘Heritage’ to completion. ”
